the story of singer misterbain
Brandon Bain also known as MisterBain is passionate about two things; music & visual storytelling through video. In the appropriately inherited vintage spirit of such greats as Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Harry Belafonte, Marvin Gaye and Sammy Davis Jr, Bain refreshingly blends pure silky tones, humor and modernly honest renditions of all of the greatest classics.
Bain skillfully engages audiences with personal stories that charmingly complement his natural and calming vocal style, which memorably results in an all-around uplifting and 'feel good' experience. He has performed at the legendary Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Apollo Music Cafe, Sculler’s Jazz Club, Cliff Bell’s, Birdland, Smoke Jazz Club and Carnegie Hall.
He recently served as artistic director and curator for “Calypso Re-Imagined” a tribute to Harry Belafonte’s 1956 album “Calypso”, which was the first LP to sell one million copies in the U.S. He has toured with The Urban Bush Women’s production of “SCAT!: The Complex Lives of Al and Dot Zollar” performing at Bard University and Duke University.
He founded the award-winning Capsulocity Network, which is one of a few Jazz video series that features up and comers and documented a slice of life that was the New York City Jazz scene from 2011-2020 before the lockdown. He started the series after winning $2,600 from the New York State Lottery’s Win-4 game, which was the exact cost for the Canon camera a friend recommended.
Brandon is in a rare class, as a musician that has started his own Jazz video series; an oral history project, with primarily New York artists; has amassed more than a million views with nearly 200 interviews; rarely seen performances and first-time duets. He is continuing with a new experimental/cultural project, #ARTWITHINTENTION, “the show that explore’s why we make the things we do” now available on The Capsulocity Network.
